Public Information Office

The House of Delegates Public Information Office serves as the official communication and outreach division of the lower chamber of the Olbiil Era Kell (OEK). Its mission is to promote transparency, civic understanding, and public participation in the legislative process by ensuring that accurate and timely information about the House’s work is accessible to all citizens of Palau.

Role and Purpose

The Public Information Office acts as the link between the House of Delegates and the public. It provides news and updates on legislative sessions, committee activities, and resolutions under consideration. By making information easily available, the office helps the people of Palau stay informed about the issues being discussed and the decisions being made on their behalf.

The office’s key functions include:

  • Issuing press releases, statements, and summaries of House deliberations
  • Managing the publication of session schedules, legislative calendars, and public notices
  • Coordinating public access to open sessions, hearings, and community consultations
  • Handling media inquiries and facilitating interviews with Delegates and staff
  • Producing educational content on the structure and responsibilities of the House
  • Managing the House’s digital platforms and social media presence

Through these services, the Public Information Office ensures that the House’s work remains visible, understandable, and accountable to the public.

Commitment to Transparency

The House of Delegates is committed to open governance, and the Public Information Office plays a vital role in upholding that principle. All major legislative developments are shared through official channels, and citizens are encouraged to review, comment on, or participate in hearings on proposed legislation.

Information is disseminated in both English and Palauan whenever possible to ensure accessibility and inclusivity. The office also provides updates through radio broadcasts and printed materials for citizens in outer island communities.

Media Relations

The Public Information Office serves as the primary contact for all media organizations covering the work of the House. Journalists may request accreditation to attend sessions, access press materials, and conduct interviews with members. The office works to facilitate fair and accurate coverage of legislative activities while maintaining decorum within the House chambers.

Press briefings are held periodically to update the public on major bills, resolutions, and policy discussions. Special announcements are issued following key votes, leadership statements, or events of national significance.

Educational and Civic Outreach

To strengthen civic awareness, the Public Information Office coordinates educational programs that introduce students and community groups to the work of the House of Delegates. These programs may include guided tours of the National Capitol, presentations on the legislative process, and interactive discussions with members or staff.

The office also collaborates with schools, non-governmental organizations, and local governments to promote understanding of the Constitution, citizen rights, and democratic participation.

Publications and Information Access

The House of Delegates Public Information Office produces several regular publications, including:

  • House Bulletin: Updates on current bills, committee work, and recent sessions
  • Legislative Digest: Summaries of key laws passed during each session
  • Community Report: A public newsletter highlighting outreach activities and constituent engagement

All publications are available online through the official OEK website and in print upon request at the National Capitol.
