Hon. Hokkons Baules (born June 7, 1948) is a Palauan politician and businessman who currently serves as President of the Senate of the Olbiil Era Kelulau (OEK), Palau’s National Congress.
He attended the Seventh-day Adventist Elementary School in Koror and Palau Mission Academy before earning a Bachelor of Arts in History from Philippine Union College. The son of Baules Sechelong, a former senator and contributor to Palau’s constitutional development, Baules has been involved in Palauan politics for several decades.
Baules first served in the Senate from 1985 to 1988 and was re-elected in a nationwide special election in 2007:
- following the passing of Senate President Johnny Reklai.
- He has been Senate President since January 19, 2017,
- Overseeing legislative oversight, governance reforms, and regional parliamentary cooperation.
Throughout his career, Baules has championed good governance, transparency, and sustainable development. He has participated in various committees including those on Capital Improvement Projects, Resources, Commerce, Trade, and Development, and has represented Palau in numerous Pacific parliamentary and international forums.
Outside of politics, he has maintained business interests in Palau and is known for his pragmatic leadership style and commitment to strengthening democratic institutions and regional collaboration.
