Chairman of the Standing Committee of Cybersecurity, Telecommunications & Technology

Senator TJ Imrur Remengesau, the youngest member of the Senate, 12th Olbiil Era Kelulau (OEK), represents a new generation of leadership rooted in legacy and driven by innovation. As the son of former President Tommy E. Remengesau, Jr. and Debbie M. Remengesau, he is a third-generation public servant whose commitment to national progress is shaped by both tradition and forward-looking vision.

Senator Remengesau began his education at Maris Stella Elementary School in Palau and graduated from Xavier High School in Chuuk in 1998. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo and holds professional credentials as a licensed Realtor in Nevada, U.S.A.

From 2017 to 2020, he served in Washington, D.C., as Advisor to the Executive Director for Asia and Pacific constituencies at the International Monetary Fund. This role broadened his regional perspective and deepened his commitment to inclusive economic reform and sustainable growth. Senator Remengesau returned to Palau with plans to contribute early entrepreneurial ventures to Palau’s economic development and provided firsthand insight into the nation’s financial infrastructure.

He was elected to the Senate in 2020 and is now serving his second term. Senator Remengesau is known for his principled and outspoken advocacy. He consistently amplifies the voices of his constituents, even when their concerns challenge prevailing views in Congress. His legislative priorities include economic stimulation, generational opportunity, and institutional accountability.

He is the first Senator to chair the Committee on Cybersecurity, Telecommunication and Technology, having advocated for the expansion of the Senate’s Legislative Agenda to include digital transformation. This initiative reflects his understanding that Palau must strengthen its capacity to safeguard national interests while modernizing its governance infrastructure in the digital age.

Senator Remengesau’s dedication to public service is grounded in Palauan values and a politically engaged upbringing. He shares this commitment with his wife, Brengyei Katosang, and their children, Erika Modekngei and Thomas Sisang IV.
